John
Barrett (JB) Workman has been selected as in intern to travel with the USGA
agronomists in the Southeast Region this summer. JB attends the University of Georgia
where he is pursuing a M.S. degree in crop and soil sciences with an emphasis
in turfgrass science under the advisement of Dr. Clint Waltz.
His research currently is focused on dollar spot disease on turfgrass.
JB grew up in Hartwell,
GA where he began going to the golf course at
a young age with his father who is a certified golf course superinentdent at
Cateechee Golf Club (Hartwell,
GA). He began working on the golf
course part-time during high school and quickly learned the important role of
the superintendent. JB has gained much
respect for golf course superintendents and the hard work they put forth in
order to make golf a better game. This
love for the game and desire to make it better is what drives him the most.
JB plans to graduate in May 2012
and continue his education pursuing a Ph.D. in turfgrass pathology. He would like to one day become a turfgrass
research scientist.
