Patrick M. O'Brien

Southeast Region


O'Brien is an agronomist in the USGA Green Section's Southeast Region, which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Bermuda. He joined the USGA Green Section in 1979 after receiving his master’s degree in agronomy from West Virginia University and a bachelor’s degree from Marietta College in Ohio. He was born in the small town of Emsworth, Pa., just minutes away from downtown Pittsburgh and his three favorite sports teams: the Pirates, Penguins and Steelers.

His main responsibility is working as part of the team that provides the USGA’s Course Consulting Service in the Southeast Region. The team works with approximately 250 golf courses annually, including public, private, military and resort facilities. His goal is to help all courses and golf course superintendents become as successful as possible each year.
