U.S. SENIOR WOMEN'S AMATEUR
Record-Tying Entries For Senior Women's Amateur August 19, 2010 By USGA

Far Hills, N.J. – The United States Golf Association has accepted a record-tying 543 entries for the 2010 USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, which will be played Oct. 9-14 at Fiddlesticks Country Club in Fort Myers, Fla.

The record of 543 entries was set in 2008. There were 502 entries in 2009.

We are thrilled by the record-tying number of entries for the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, which really reflects the strong interest in USGA championships, said Barbara Douglas, chairman of the USGA Women’s Committee. We are particularly grateful to the state and regional golf associations, which helped the USGA promote the championship to its members.

Fourteen players are fully exempt into the championship, led by 2009 champion Sherry Herman. Past champions Carolyn Creekmore, Diane Lang, Anna Schultz and Carol Semple Thompson are also in the field.

The remainder of the field of 132 players will be filled via sectional qualifying at 23 sites, which will begin Sept.1 and will conclude on Sept. 16. A sectional qualifier will be played at Orange County National in Winter Garden, Fla., on Sept. 18.
