From the USGA Handicap System to national amateur championships, to modernizing the delivery of the game’s Rules and supporting sustainable golf course management practices, the United States Golf Association promotes the health of a game that inspires, challenges, and rewards like nothing else can.

We live in a world that is highly data driven, and it is no different in golf. The USGA’s Research, Science and Innovation (RSI) department is dedicated to advancing the game through the use of data and technology in order to provide solutions to challenges such as poor place of play and the rising costs of course maintenance. We are looking for a RSI Data Analyst Intern to join our team this summer to help us collect and analyze data that will help golf courses provide a better experience for golfers and operate more efficiently.

Based at the USGA’s headquarters in Far Hills, N.J., the intern will work in the field to collect data at golf courses, in addition to performing statistical analyses and generate reports that will be shared with others in the organization, and the findings ultimately will be distributed across the industry.

This IMPACT Internship will also feature a Professional Development focus where you will have an opportunity to participate in Panel Discussions (Leadership & Former Interns), learn more about our broader organization by being exposed to "Day in the Life of" job overviews, participating in community service and social activities, and the opportunity to complete and present a capstone project for senior leaders and management.

 

What you can expect:

  • Developing data-collection forms  and procedures based on project requirements
  • Collecting data from local golf facilities during on-site visits
  • Analyzing data to discover trends and derive insights at the golf-facility level
  • Generating reports on results of data analysis to present to RSI team and USGA leadership

 

 

What you bring to the USGA:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree with a major in engineering, mathematics and/or statistics strongly preferred
  • General working knowledge of golf
  • Strong communication/presentation skills
  • Experience with a statistical tool such as R and Python
  • Experience with SQL a plus
