Ty McClellan

Agronomist
Mid-Continent Region

Ty McClellan is an agronomist for the USGA Green Section's Mid-Continent Region, joining the staff in February 2007. Based out of Chicago, McClellan focuses his Turf Advisory Service visits on a five-state territory that includes Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri.

A native of Kansas, McClellan grew up on his family's farm, raising dry-land wheat combined with a cow/calf operation. Interestingly enough, he grew up playing golf on sand putting greens and learned the art of dragging and raking greens.

McClellan holds a B.S. degree in agriculture with an emphasis in golf course management from Kansas State University and a M.S. degree in horticulture specializing in turfgrass science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. McClellan participated in internships at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, KS and with the USGA Green Section. A former GCSAA MacCurrach Award Winner, GCSAA Essay Contest Winner and recipient of the Watson Fellowship, McClellan also helped initiate a new internship program with the PGA TOUR in 2003.

Prior to joining the USGA, McClellan worked for the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) as their first chapter liaison representative.
