Patrick J. Gross

Gross is the director of the Southwest Region, working in the Southern California office. He joined the Green Section staff in December, 1991. His primary responsibility is sharing practical information on golf course maintenance issues to courses in California, Nevada and Mexico through the Turf Advisory Service. Gross has written articles for the Green Section Record and is a frequent contributor to local superintendents' newsletters and conferences.

Prior to joining the USGA, he was a golf course superintendent for five years in the Los Angeles area. It was there he gained practical experience in all aspects of golf course management, including the use of effluent water and the management of golf courses built on landfill sites.

Gross is a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, with a B.S.degree in Ornamental Horticulture specializing in Turfgrass Management. He is an advisory member of the University of California at Riverside Turfgrass Research Advisory Committee (UCR-TRAC) and California Alliance for Golf.

Gross is an avid golfer who was born and raised in Southern California. He and his wife Mary Ellen reside in Fullerton, Calif., with their four children.
