The USGA's Green Section Department, founded more than eight decades ago, remains the nation's chief authority regarding impartial, authoritative information for turfgrass management. Established in 1920, the Green Section involves itself in every phase of golf course maintenance and management. The Turf Advisory Service brings to golf courses a wealth of information regarding maintenance of golf courses. The Green Section's activities also include funding research to developing improved strains of turfgrass that require less water, fewer pesticides, and are more tolerant of stress, and the promotion of environmentally-sensitive construction and maintenance practices.
