USGA Resource Center For Individuals
With Disabilities
The
USGA believes that golf's enjoyment should be accessible
to all. From this commitment, the Resource Center for Individuals
with Disabilities was created
to make golf more accessible for the growing population of
individuals with disabilities. Powered by a comprehensive
Web site, the Resource Center gathers and makes available
vital information to potential or
current golfers with disabilities and other interested members
of the golf and medical communities.
What is the Resource Center Web site
The
Resource Center Web site serves as a clearinghouse of information
for individuals with disabilities looking to get involved with
the game of golf for therapeutic or recreational purposes.
USGA Fellows work directly with the day to day operation of
the site. Central to the information provided are six searchable
databases with contact information for instructors, courses,
players, therapists, programs, and tournaments.
Also on the site are tools regarding information
about how to play the game, easy to read brochures, and the
USGA’s commitment to accessibility at each of its national
championships. Resources on the site include:
- A Modification to the Rules of Golf for
Golfers with Disabilities
- Toolkits and brochures for golf facility
operators
- Spectator Assistance at USGA championships
- Inspirational stories
- “I-Play…” brochure, a
useful guide for golfers with disabilities
National Partnerships
In addition to the operating and maintaining
a Web site for golfers with disabilities, the Resource Center
collaborates with many other organizations in regards to accessible
golf. Partners include the National Alliance for Accessible
Golf, the American Therapeutic Recreational Association, the
National Center on Accessibility, Special Olympics, the National
Golf Course Owners Association, the PGA of American and the
LPGA.
