The organizations listed as the grantees represent the legal applicant of the grant, which is not always the same as the program name for which the grant was awarded.



Arkansas

Junior Golf Programs

Alma Area Boys and Girls Club, Inc.
Alma, Ark.
Awarded: $1,150
Purpose: This grant will fund participant scholarships to The First Tee of Fort Smith in addition to equipment and driving range access. The Alma Area Boys and Girls Club serves a compelling demographic with respect to socio- economic background.

Colorado

Junior Golf Programs

Open Fairways
Highlands Ranch, Colo.
Awarded: $20,000
Purpose: This grant supports an organization that partners with over 75 group homes, residential facilities, and shelters to reach over 2,000 at-risk and/or neglected children. Additionally, the organization rewards children that demonstrate positive behavior with free course access outside of normal programming hours at participating affiliate facilities. USGA funds will be used to provide instruction.

The Youth Foundation
Edwards, Colo.
Awarded: $40,000
Purpose: This matching grant supports a program that is projected to reach over 1,200 children. To enrich the program, this organization will include homework assistance services, career counseling, mentoring services, and health and wellness education for its participants. USGA funds will be used to provide instruction, course access, range access, club building supplies, golf clubs and bags, and transportation.

Kansas

Junior Golf Programs

Community Action, Inc.
Topeka, Kan.
Awarded: $12,000
Purpose: This matching grant will assist the start-up of The First Tee of Shawnee County. This chapter will serve 80 children who come from economically disadvantaged families. Specifically, USGA funds will support instruction, access, equipment, and transportation.

Native American Junior Golf Association
Topeka, Kan.
Awarded: $25,000
Purpose: This matching grant will assist in the funding of a golf program for 150 Native American children. All participants come from economically disadvantaged areas of Kansas.

Program for People w/Disabilities

Buddie's Buddies
Mission, Kan.
Awarded: $5,295
Purpose: This partial-challenge grant will help fund the purchase of a single rider golf car as well as adaptive golf clubs for Buddie's Veterans Adaptive Golf. All participants will be injured veterans who will use golf as a means of rehabilitation. More than 100 veterans will take part in this 10-week program and special golf events.

Triple "A" Youth Foundation
St. Louis, Mo.
Awarded: $32,000
Purpose: This grant supports a program that reaches nearly 1,500 children in both on-course programs and in-school programs. The organization receives affordable access rates for its participants to enable them to continue playing the game after normal programming hours. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access, and range access.

New Mexico

Junior Golf Programs

Life Skills Fore Youth of the Pecos Valley
Roswell, N.M.
Awarded: $34,000
Purpose: This grant supports a program that projects to increase its participant reach by nearly 85% in 2008. The majority of these children are projected to come from economically-disadvantaged households. This organization will provide participants with an extensive programming experience and inexpensive course access outside of normal program. USGA funds will be used to provide golf clubs and bags and course access passes for participants to use for outside play.

New Choices
Las Vegas, N.M.
Awarded: $13,000
Purpose: This matching grant supports the rejuvenation of a golf program that will serve a diverse and economically- disadvantaged group of at-risk children. The organization will provide an extensive program experience for participants, as they will receive a projected 32 meetings of instruction. Additionally, the program will provide inexpensive course access opportunities to participants outside of normal programming hours. USGA funds will be used to provide instruction, course access, golf clubs and bags, and transportation.

Purpose: This grant will assist with the funding of the Free Play program offered to Chickasaw Nation youth. Participants are all economically disadvantaged and would otherwise not get the opportunity to learn the game of golf and its inherent values.

Caddie/Occupational Programs

Texas Golf Association Foundation
Dallas, Texas
Awarded: $30,000
Purpose: This grant will help fund the TGA Works program, which is an internship program aimed at getting high school aged kids involved in the golf industry. Interns will work in all facets of club management and will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the game.

Purpose: This matching grant supports the growth of The First Tee of Killeen. Approximately 200 ethnically-diverse and economically-disadvantaged children will take part in programming. USGA funds will be used to provide instruction, course access, and range access.

Purpose: This matching grant will help to fund instruction, access, equipment, and transportation for over 2,000 participants at The First Tee of Fort Worth. These participants are economically disadvantaged and would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn the game of golf and its inherent values.

Purpose: This grant supports The First Tee of the Piney Woods, an organization that will serve a diverse group of more than 500 children. Participants will receive instruction from qualified professionals and course and range access opportunities outside of normal programming hours for free or at a reduced rate. USGA funds will be used to provide instruction and course and range access passes for participants to use outside of normal programming hours.

Purpose: This matching grant supports a collaboration between the organization and The First Tee of Dallas. The golf program will expose approximately 60 economically disadvantaged kids to the game of golf and will also include a mentoring component called Project Manhood.

Purpose: This matching grant supports instruction, course and range access, transportation, and equipment for 20 economically disadvantaged kids in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The program has been impacting the lives of kids in the area for over 20 years and features extensive instruction hours and course access opportunities.

Purpose: This matching grant will help fund instruction and access for participants of The First Tee of Greater Brownsville. This chapter of The First Tee serves over 300 participants on the border of Texas and Mexico who are economically-disadvantaged and would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn the game of golf and its inherent values.
