2008 National Region Grants

These Grants were made to assist organizations in operating throughout the country.

Dollar awards represent total monies committed by the USGA. Some awards take the form of multi-year grants while others are challenge grants. The organizations listed as the grantees represent the legal applicant of the grant, which is not always the same as the program name for which the grant was awarded.



Rhode Island

Junior Golf Programs

Institute for International Sport
Kingston, R.I.
Awarded: $31,250
Purpose: This grant supports an organization that operates the U.S. Scholar-Athlete Games. The Games will conduct 14 competitions, including the sport of golf. To supplement the friendly competition, the Games will host educational symposiums and discussion groups for all participants to encourage them to become more active in their communities. USGA funds will be used to provide scholarships to cover airfare, registrations fees, and room and board for the duration of the Games for 25 participants in USGA-supported programs.

Tennessee

Program for People w/Disabilities

United States Blind Golf Association
Nashville, Tenn.
Awarded: $6,000
Purpose: This grant will support programming for nearly 600 blind and vision impaired individuals in 2008. The program will operate ten one-day clinics and three multi-day clinics across the United States. USGA funds will support instruction, course access, and transportation.

Washington D.C

Program for People w/Disabilities

Special Olympics North America
Washington,
Awarded: $35,000
Purpose: This grant supports a unique opportunity for advanced golf competition for 220 individuals with disabilities. Participants from across the nation will gather at the National Invitation Tournament to compete in the three- day event. USGA funds will support course and range access at the tournament.
