The organizations listed as the grantees represent the legal applicant of the grant, which is not always the same as the program name for which the grant was awarded.



Alaska


Program for People w/Disabilities

Challenge Alaska, Incorporated
Anchorage, Alaska
Awarded: $11,500
Purpose: This matching grant supports the expansion to a new programming site. The growth will allow the only known adaptive golf program in the state to reach a new population of individuals with disabilities. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access, adaptive equipment, and an adaptive golf car.

Junior Golf Programs

Girls Incorporated of Greater Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara, Calif.
Awarded: $4,000
Purpose: This matching grant supports the expansion of the Girls Golf Too! Program. The organization will offer three ten-week golf sessions throughout the spring and summer, specifically for 5th grade girls in the Santa Barbara community. Girls Inc.'s mission is to educate and inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Each girl receives her own set of golf clubs upon completion of the program. USGA funds will assist with instruction, course and range access, equipment, and transportation.

Yreka Family YMCA
Yreka, Calif.
Awarded: $2,500
Purpose: This matching grant supports the introduction of golf to a rural population previously not exposed to the game. The program will introduce over 500 youths and will provide extended playing opportunities for approximately 50 participants who demonstrate an interest in continuing to play. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access, and golf clubs and bags.

East Bay Golf Foundation
Concord, Calif.
Awarded: $95,000
Purpose: This three-year grant supports the expansion of The First Tee of Contra Costa, which plans to nearly triple its participant reach in the next three years. It currently serves 900 youths in the East San Francisco Bay Area through year-round programming. Specifically, this grant will support the 12-week Life Skills program at three separate golf courses. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access, and driving range access.

Boys & Girls Club of Southwest County
Temecula, Calif.
Awarded: $4,000
Purpose: This matching grant supports the expansion of the Junior Golf & Itty Bitty Golf program. The Boys and Girls Club of Southwest County plans to offer comprehensive programming at four different golf courses in 2007. The curriculum integrates the Pillars of Responsibility into each lesson, focusing on non-golf components like honesty, competence, and respect. USGA funds will assist with course access outside of programming, as well as instruction, transportation, and equipment.

Valley-Wide Recreation & Park District
San Jacinto, Calif.
Awarded: $15,000
Purpose: This three-year grant supports Grandfathers for Golf, an entirely volunteer-operated program. Grandfathers for Golf will expand to include summer programming this year, as it continues to provide each participant with his or her own golf shirt, shoes, clubs and bag, and balls at no cost to them or their families. 75% of participants come from households with incomes less than $50,000 per year. USGA funds will assist with range access.

Ventura County Junior Golf Association
Ventura, Calif.
Awarded: $37,500
Purpose: This grant supports the Training on Wheels and Academy Scholars programs operated by The First Tee of Ventura County. The organization projects that it will reach over 3,000 participants with its free outreach programs offered to juniors and individuals with disabilities. USGA funds will assist with PGA/LPGA professional and apprentice instruction, as well as instruction given by The First Tee coaches.

San Jose Sports Authority
San Jose, Calif.
Awarded: $42,500
Purpose: This grant supports The First Tee of San Jose, which offers year-round programming to approximately 2,000 youths. Participants are offered a variety of low cost course and range access opportunities, often for $1. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access, clubs and bags, and the popular USGA Free Range Ball Days offered by the program each month.

Del Rio CC Foundation
Modesto, Calif.
Awarded: $10,000
Purpose: This matching grant supports the expansion of The First Tee of Modesto. The organization plans to increase its outreach programming to 58 after-school sites and transport 10% of its outreach participants to on-course programming. USGA funds will assist with transportation, as well as instruction and course access.

Lake Chabot Junior Golf Academy
San Leandro, Calif.
Awarded: $14,000
Purpose: This matching grant supports Lake Chabot Junior Golf Academy, which has been offering free junior golf programming for 13 years. The organization reaches an ethnically diverse population in the Oakland community; over 80% of participants are either African-American or Asian. USGA funds will assist with instruction, course access, and range access.

Program for People w/Disabilities

Mosquitos Eastside Action Club, Inc.
Ripon, Calif.
Awarded: $2,700
Purpose: This matching grant supports the introduction of individuals with disabilities to the game of golf. The program provides access to the game for its participants from April through September. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access, golf clubs and bags, and transportation.

Hawaii


Junior Golf Programs

North Shore Junior Golf Association
Waialua, Hawaii
Awarded: $50,000
Purpose: This matching grant supports The First Tee of Oahu as it expands to other islands in Hawaii and will change its name to The First Tee of Hawaii. In only its second year of programming, it hopes to introduce the game to over 400 participants. USGA funds will be used to pay for instruction.

Idaho


Golf Facilities

Idaho Youth Golf Association, Inc.
Boise, Idaho
Awarded: $17,300
Purpose: This grant supports the construction of a practice area to be built at the program's home facility. In only its second full year of programming, the new facility will allow the program to expand its reach to more than 400 youths throughout Boise. USGA funds will be used for the construction of a 2,500 square-foot artificial-turf putting green.

Idaho Youth Ranch Inc.
Boise, Idaho
Awarded: $14,650
Purpose: This grant supports the construction of a practice facility at a residential treatment center for troubled youth. Golf will be used as rehabilitation therapy, as well as a weekly leisure activity. The Idaho Youth Ranch is committed to helping participants form a life-long connection with the game. When youth leave the facility, he or she will be paired with a PGA pro in their hometown for continued instructional and vocational opportunities.

Utah


Junior Golf Programs

Boys & Girls Club of Utah County
Provo, Utah
Awarded: $11,000
Purpose: This challenge grant supports a first-year junior golf program that will serve at-risk youth in rural Utah. The Boys and Girls Club of Utah County offers low-cost, after-school programs for an economically disadvantaged population; nearly 70% of participants come from households with an income of less than $25,000 per year. USGA funds will assist with instruction, course access, and equipment.

Utah Golf Association
Sandy, Utah
Awarded: $15,000
Purpose: This grant supports the Girls High School Golf program launched by the Utah Golf Association and the Utah Section of the PGA. Currently, there are no girls high school golf teams in Utah, but if this state-wide program is successful, the Utah High School Activities Association has agreed to start girls high school golf teams as soon as spring 2008. USGA funds will assist with providing girls in the program with free course access.

University of Utah
Salt Lake City, Utah
Awarded: $20,000
Purpose: This matching grant will support the expansion of GAIN Utah, a program aimed at creating an inclusive golf network for individuals with disabilities in Utah. The program offers lessons, clinics, and a new teacher training initiative which will train PGA and LPGA instructors on how to effectively instruct individuals with disabilities. USGA funds will assist with instruction, course and range access, adaptive equipment, and transportation.

Junior Golf Programs

Seattle Junior Golf Foundation
Seattle, Wash.
Awarded: $27,500
Purpose: This grant supports the expected growth of The First Tee of Greater Seattle. The program provides introductory and intermediate golf and life skills instruction to a diverse youth population. The organization is active in the community and encourages community service involvement from its participants. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access, range access, and transportation.
