2007 National Region Grants

These Grants were made to assist organizations in operating throughout the country.

Dollar awards represent total monies committed by the USGA. Some awards take the form of multi-year grants while others are challenge grants. The organizations listed as the grantees represent the legal applicant of the grant, which is not always the same as the program name for which the grant was awarded.



Florida


Junior Golf Programs

National Alliance for Youth Sports
West Palm Beach, Fla.
Awarded: $100,000
Purpose: This grant funds Hook a Kid On Golf Tee Level Clinics, which are supported by the National Alliance for Youth Sports. Tee Level Clinics, held throughout the country, meet for five days for a total of 15 hours of golf instruction. USGA funds are to be used by individual HAKOG sites to provide scholarships for up to 10 participants with financial need per site. The individual site, in turn, commits to matching the USGA funds by providing scholarships for an equal number of underserved youth.

LPGA Foundation
Daytona Beach, Fla.
Awarded: $185,000
Purpose: This grant supports the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf initiative, which is administered through a partnership between the USGA and the LPGA Foundation. In 2007, Girls Golf is projected to expand to more than 220 sites and to reach 6,800 girls nationwide. This grant will be allocated to local sites as matching grant awards to help cover costs associated with golf course and driving range access, equipment, and professional instruction. A small portion of this grant will be used for marketing initiatives and site director support.

Indiana


Program for People w/Disabilities

National Alliance for Accessible Golf
Bloomington, Ind.
Awarded: $25,000
Purpose: This grant supports the National Alliance for Accessible Golf. The Alliance seeks to ensure the opportunity for all persons with disability to fully engage in the game of golf. USGA funds will be used for golf facility access and transportation with the ultimate goal of expanding the Project GAIN initiative. This initiative seeks to create golf accessible and inclusive networks for individuals with disabilities in communities throughout the country.

Maryland


Program for People w/Disabilities

United States Deaf Golf Association
Chesapeake Beach, Md.
Awarded: $20,000
Purpose: This grant supports the organization's national championship, which will be hosted in Saint Louis, Missouri in July of 2007. Specifically, USGA funding will be used to support the golf course access fees for participants in the tournament.

Tennessee


Program for People w/Disabilities

United States Blind Golf Association
Nashville, Tenn.
Awarded: $11,000
Purpose: This grant supports the organization's clinics, which introduce blind and visually impaired individuals to the game of golf. Clinics and ongoing programs will be held throughout the country. Over 300 individuals are expected to participate. USGA funds will be used for instruction, golf course access, and transportation.
