Dollar awards represent total monies committed by the USGA. Some awards take the form of multi-year grants while others are challenge grants. The organizations listed as the grantees represent the legal applicant of the grant, which is not always the same as the program name for which the grant was awarded.



Arizona


Program for Individuals with Disabilities

Arizona Recreation Center for the Handicapped
Phoenix, Ariz.
Awarded: $12,500
Purpose: This is a $12,500 one-year, outright grant to support ARCH's Swing Into Golf program for individuals with disabilities of all ages. The program will enter its second year of operation in May and hopes to increase participation to 150. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course and range access, and transportation.

Scottsdale Unified School District - Special Education Department
Scottsdale, Ariz.
Awarded: $4,650
Purpose: This grant supports the implementation of a junior golf program for individuals with disabilities through the Scottsdale Unified School District. During the 2006-2007 school year, 52 students in the SUSD Special Education Department will be taught golf as part of their recreational education. USGA funds will be used for instruction and range access.

Arkansas


Program for Individuals with Disabilities

First Tee of Fort Smith, Arkansas
Fort Smith, Ark.
Awarded: $10,400
Purpose: This grant will help create a program for individuals with disabilities within The First Tee of Fort Smith's overall offerings. USGA funds will be used for instruction, adapta-clubs, a static seat, and an automatic ball dispenser. The First Tee of Fort Smith plans to reach 160 individuals with disabilities in the first year of this new program.

Colorado


Program for Individuals with Disabilities

The Youth Foundation
Edwards, Co.
Awarded: $4,100
Purpose: This grant supports a golf program for children with disabilities through The First Tee of Eagle County (TFTEC). This is TFTEC's first year of operation, and USGA funds will be used for instruction and transportation to integrate three cognitive needs children into its general program.

Kansas


Junior Golf Programs

Boys & Girls Club of Topeka
Topeka, Kan.
Awarded: $4,800
Purpose: This challenge grant supports the Boys and Girls Club of Topeka golf program, which will serve over 50 kids in 2006. This program provides summer golf instruction to Club members while utilizing two local golf courses. USGA funds will be used for instruction, access, and golf clubs and bags.

Louisiana


Junior Golf Programs

The Central Louisiana Education and Youth Development Foundation, Inc.
Pineville, La.
Awarded: $27,500
Purpose: This grant supports the Central Louisiana Education and Youth Development Foundation, which is beginning a The First Tee chapter. USGA funds will be used for general program costs, including instruction, course and range access, and transportation. The First Tee of Central Louisiana is projecting to reach approximately 350 kids by the end of its first year of programming.

Missouri


Junior Golf Programs

Disabled Citizens Alliance For Independence
Viburnum, Mo.
Awarded: $2,000
Purpose: This grant supports a youth golf program in a very rural area of southwest Missouri. This program will have a short in-school portion this spring, followed by a summer schedule for interested kids. This pilot program will hopefully grow quickly and may include a program for individuals with disabilities in the future. USGA funds will be used for instruction as well as golf clubs and bags.

Program for Individuals with Disabilities

Jasper County Sheltered Facilities Association
Joplin, Mo.
Awarded: $7,250
Purpose: This grant supports Jasper County Sheltered Facilities Association's Caddy Shack Youth Golf Program for individuals with disabilities of all ages, a majority of whom are economically disadvantaged. The program is entering its second year of operation and projects to increase participation by six to 30 total participants. USGA funds will be used for instruction and course and range access.

New Mexico


Junior Golf Programs

FORE Kids Santa Fe, Inc.
Albuquerque, N.M.
Awarded: $15,000
Purpose: This grant supports FORE Kids Santa Fe, a junior golf program dedicated to providing after-school and summer golf programs to low-income and disadvantaged children throughout the Santa Fe and Sandoval communities. Specifically, this grant will help FORE Kids expand in its second year of operation to reach 100 youths and offer a more extensive participant experience. USGA funds will be used for instruction and equipment.

Golf Academy of the Southwest
Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.
Awarded: $25,000
Purpose: This grant will help The First Tee of Central New Mexico expand to offer programming at an additional site -- Twin Warriors Golf Club. The First Tee of Central New Mexico projects to reach an additional 150 kids at this site in its first year of programming. USGA funds will be used for instruction.

Santa Fe Boys and Girls Club Inc
Santa Fe, N.M.
Awarded: $16,000
Purpose: This matching grant supports a golf program for members of the Santa Fe Boys and Girls Club. This program will serve over 75 kids this year by running three meetings per week over 13 weeks. The Club utilizes a local golf course to provide professional instruction and on-course opportunities. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access, range access, transportation, and golf clubs and bags.

Oklahoma


Junior Golf Programs

Citizen Potawatomi Nation
Shawnee, Okla.
Awarded: $6,000
Purpose: This grant will provide the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Native American Youth Golf Program the ability to serve 30 kids who have had no previous exposure to golf. This will be a free summer program; the participants will also have access to an 18-hole public course outside of programming free of charge. USGA funding will provide instruction, course access, range access, and equipment.

Texas


Junior Golf Programs

Southern Texas PGA Foundation
Spring, Texas
Awarded: $35,000
Purpose: This grant supports the Little Linksters golf program which operates in six different locales around south Texas. This program consists of an initial clinic instruction portion, followed by play-day opportunities for those who complete the clinics. USGA funds will be used for scholarships and instruction.

The Children's Center for Self-Esteem
Hurst, Texas
Awarded: $17,000
Purpose: This grant supports a junior golf program operated by the Children's Center for Self-Esteem (CCSE). The golf program is used as an incentive tool to encourage parents to attend parenting classes offered by CCSE. Specifically, this grant will help the program expand in both number of students reached, as well as the extensiveness of each individual's experience, particularly in regard to on-course play. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access, transportation, and scholarships to attend programming at The First Tee of Dallas.

Youth Sports Council of Fort Worth
Fort Worth, Texas
Awarded: $12,500
Purpose: This grant supports The First Tee of Fort Worth junior golf program. Specifically, USGA funds will be used for instruction and course and range access. The First Tee of Fort Worth is projecting to increase participation this year to 600 youths, approximately half of whom will be enrolled The First Tee participants.
