Dollar awards represent total monies committed by the USGA. Some awards take the form of multi-year grants while others are challenge grants. The organizations listed as the grantees represent the legal applicant of the grant, which is not always the same as the program name for which the grant was awarded.






Junior Golf Programs

St. Croix Junior Golfers Association
Awarded: $16,000
Purpose: This grant supports the St. Croix Junior Golfers Association as the only USGA-supported junior golf program in the Virgin Islands. Approximately 50 kids will receive beginner to advanced golf instruction year-round. USGA funds will provide instruction and scholarships.

Alabama


Junior Golf Programs

Southern Community College
Tuskegee, Ala.
Awarded: $13,000
Purpose: This grant will provide funding for the Tuskegee Golf Tech Partnership to start a junior golf program for 40 participants. A majority of the kids will come from the Tuskegee Housing Authority, and none will have any previous golf experience. USGA funds will provide instruction, course access, driving range access, and golf clubs and bags.

Florida


Junior Golf Programs

City of St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg, Fla.
Awarded: $50,000
Purpose: This grant will enable The First Tee of St. Petersburg to serve nearly 2,000 kids from local schools, social service organizations, and the community. A majority of the kids will come from economically disadvantaged households and 75% will be beginners. Programming will last all year at a minimal fee for those who can afford to pay. USGA funding will provide instruction, course access, range access, and golf clubs and bags.

Future Masters, Inc.
Orlando, Fla.
Awarded: $20,000
Purpose: This grant funds a program in Orlando, Florida to provide junior golf programming for 620 participants. This $20,000 grant will fund instruction, course access, and equipment for juniors (3-18 years of age) of all skill levels. Years round programming will allow this organization to reach a variety of participants through daily after-school and summer programming.

Orange County Public Schools
Orlando, Fla.
Awarded: $15,000
Purpose: This grant will provide funding for 240 grade schools kids in Orlando, Florida. Programming will take place after-school in three difference locations. The top 40 kids in the program will have the opportunity to play on the course on four occasions. USGA funding will provide transportation, equipment, instruction, course access, and range access.

TEE-LO Golf Inc.
Orlando, Fla.
Awarded: $14,000
Purpose: This grant will provide TEE-LO Golf the opportunity to teach golf to 100 kids of various skill levels in and around Orlando. The organization has partnered with courses in the area to fit the needs and skill levels of the participants and will provide transportation so all are able to attend programming year-round. USGA funding will provide instruction, course access, range access, golf clubs and bags, and transportation.

The First Tee of Jacksonville, Inc.
Jacksonville, Fla.
Awarded: $20,000
Purpose: This grant will support The First Tee of Jacksonville's year-round programming for players of various skill levels. Specifically, USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access and range access for over 1,000 participants, from a diverse demographic background.

YMCA of West Central Florida
Lakeland, Fla.
Awarded: $50,000
Purpose: This grant supports The First Tee of Lakeland in the provision of free access to a junior course and year round instruction. This program will serve over 1,300 kids in 2006, which is a 260% increase in participation over 2005, its second year of operation. USGA funds will be used for instruction costs.

School-Operated Programs

Gulf Coast Academy of Science and Technology
Spring Hill, Fla.
Awarded: $6,000
Purpose: This matching grant will support an in-school junior golf program for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students at a public charter school. The introductory clinics will introduce 110 participants to the game in the 2006 school year. USGA funding will be used for instruction, equipment, transportation, course access, and range access.

Junior Golf Programs

Fore! Augusta Foundation, Inc.
Augusta, Ga.
Awarded: $30,000
Purpose: This grant supports The First Tee of Augusta in the provision of a junior golf experience for the entire Augusta community. This program will serve nearly 800 kids year-round over the next two years. USGA funding will provide instruction, course access, and range access.

Friends of John A. White Park, Inc.
Atlanta, Ga.
Awarded: $37,500
Purpose: This grant supports The First Tee of Atlanta to provide a program for 700 kids in an economically depressed area. The program will incorporate summer programming, partnerships with local organizations and social service agencies, as well as year long instruction. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access, driving range access, and golf clubs and bags.

The First Tee of Columbus
Columbus, Ga.
Awarded: $30,000
Purpose: This grant supports the general programming held at The First Tee of Columbus. The program projects to reach approximately 536 participants through after-school, summer, and Saturday instructional sessions which will include The First Tee life skills certification. USGA funds will be used for course and range access.

North Carolina


Junior Golf Programs

Boys and Girls Club of the Sandhills, Inc.
Southern Pines, N.C.
Awarded: $16,000
Purpose: This matching grant supports a program that provides an introductory golf clinic to 144 participants from the Sandhills area. The program is a collaborative effort with the USGA-supported The First Tee of the Sandhills. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access, range access, equipment, transportation, and scholarships to The First Tee Chapter of The Sandhills for continued opportunities.

The Charlotte-Meckenburg Police Athletic League (PAL)
Charlotte, N.C.
Awarded: $6,770
Purpose: This grant supports the Charlotte PAL Junior Golf program which provides participants from Charlotte's urban core opportunities for golf instruction, practice time, and course access. Approximately 55 participants will be served in the program during spring and summer sessions. USGA funds will be used specifically for course access, range access, transportation, and golf clubs and bags.

Purpose: This grant supports the TYGR PAWS introductory clinics which will reach 900 underserved youths in the Greensboro community. USGA funds will specifically support instruction and transportation costs associated with the summer program.

Purpose: This grant will support programming for The First Tee of Wake County which provides traditional The First Tee programs and access to local golf courses. The program is projected to reach 700 participants and USGA funds will be used specifically for instruction and course access.

The Carol S. Petrea Youth Golf Foundation Inc.

Purpose: This grant supports the start-up of golf programming at The First Tee of Brunswick County. The program's host facility was built entirely by its Executive Director as a donation to the children of the community and the program projects to reach 300 participants in its initial year of operations. USGA funding will specifically support instruction, transportation, and course access.

South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation

Awarded: $22,500
Purpose: This grant supports the "Little Legends" Junior Golf Program which will reach 13 different communities throughout South Carolina. The program will concentrate on providing instruction and course access opportunities to 650 participants in the state. USGA funds will be used for instruction and course access.

City of Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation
Harrisonburg, Va.
Awarded: $47,500
Purpose: This grant supports The First Tee of Harrisonburg junior golf programs. The program projects to deliver life skills, golf instructional classes, and course access opportunities to more than 300 participants. USGA funds will specifically support instruction, course access, and range access.

Danville Youth GROW
Danville, Va.
Awarded: $25,000
Purpose: This grant supports the instructional costs associated with programming for The First Tee of Danville. The year-round golf program provides after-school, summer, and Saturday sesssions for 100 participants in the economically blighted areas of Danville, VA.

Northern Virginia Urban League
Alexandria, Va.
Awarded: $15,000
Purpose: This grant will support a golf program for students at three schools in Alexandria and Fairfax counties. The program is projecting to reach 50 participants and will include instructional lessons and a week-long golf summer camp. USGA funds will specifically support instruction, course access, golf clubs and bags, and access cards.

Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities
Richmond, Va.
Awarded: $11,500
Purpose: This grant supports the Richmond Hook a Kid On Golf programs as well as after school programs for elementary and middle school participants in Richmond's urban areas. The grant will support more than 1,000 participants and USGA funds will be used specifically for instruction, course access, transportation, and scholarships to The First Tee of Richmond.

YMCA of South Hampton Roads
Virginia Beach, Va.
Awarded: $35,000
Purpose: This grant supports the expansion of The First Tee of South Hampton Roads YMCA to an additional facility. This grant will fund the instruction costs at the new facility which will reach over 420 participants from various demographic backgrounds. This program will be primarily an introductory program for most participants with few intermediate players.
