Dollar awards represent total monies committed by the USGA. Some awards take the form of multi-year grants while others are challenge grants. The organizations listed as the grantees represent the legal applicant of the grant, which is not always the same as the program name for which the grant was awarded.



Connecticut


Junior Golf Programs

The Connecticut Golf Foundation
Rocky Hill, Conn.
Awarded: $80,000
Purpose: This three-year grant supports The First Tee programs run by the Connecticut Golf Foundation. All programming will be held in the summer and approximately 1,350 participants from all major cities in Connecticut will be enrolled in the Par, Birdie, and Teams programs. USGA funds will be used for instruction, range access, and course access.

School-Operated Programs

City of New Britain Parks and Recreation Department
New Britain, Conn.
Awarded: $25,000
Purpose: This two-year grant supports the City of New Britain Parks and Recreation Department's USGA After-School Golf Program. The program introduces about 325 participants to golf through instruction at twelve school locations. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course access, range access, and transportation.

Maine


Junior Golf Programs

Town of Carrabassett Valley
Kingfield, Maine
Awarded: $9,800
Purpose: This grant funds a new program for high school-aged girls. Approximately 25 participants are expected to enroll in this portion of programming, but 490 participants will be served overall. Instruction, course acess, range access, and equipment will be provided to the participating girls by USGA funds.

Maryland


Junior Golf Programs

The First Tee of Montgomery, Inc.
Washington Grove, Md.
Awarded: $18,880
Purpose: This grant will support junior golf programming for The First Tee of Montgomery County. Approximately 315 youths from Washington D.C. and Maryland areas will participate in these spring, summer, and fall programs. USGA grant funds will go toward PGA and life skills instruction and equipment.

The Salvation Army, Baltimore Area Command
Baltimore, Md.
Awarded: $10,000
Purpose: This grants supports a program for kids involved with Boys and Girls Clubs run by the Salvation Army of Baltimore. Approximately 100 participants will be involved with the golf program in 2005. USGA funds will be used toward instruction, range access, golf equipment, and transportation.

School-Operated Programs

Baltimore County Public Schools
Towson, Md.
Awarded: $48,000
Purpose: This grant supports the Girls Developmental Interscholastic Golf Program, a non-competitive league that gives female students an opportunity to learn the game. In 2005, 16 schools in the county will participate in the program, with an enrollment of 10 girls from each school. Programming will take place at various county-owned courses. Upon completion of the program, many girls will have an opportunity to join competitive girls golf teams at their respective schools. USGA funds will go toward instruction, coach training, and equipment.

Massachusetts


Program for Individuals with Disabilities

Rehabilitation Hospital of the Cape and Islands
East Sandwich, Mass.
Awarded: $8,000
Purpose: This grant supports programs that introduce individuals with disabilities to the game of golf as a supplement to physical rehabilitation. Approximately 72 adult individuals with disabilities will participate in the "Back in the Swing" and the "Back on Course" programs throughout Cape Cod. Programming will include instruction from both PGA professionals and certified therapists. The grant funds will be used for instruction, equipment, course access, and range access.

New Hampshire


Junior Golf Programs

The Seacoast Golf Academy Inc.
North Hampton, N.H.
Awarded: $17,500
Purpose: This grant supports programs that follow The First Tee's Life Skills curriculum and par, birdie, and eagle instruction levels for kids residing in Rockingham County, NH. Approximately 350 participants will receive instruction at a driving range, a short-hole course, and an 18-hole course. USGA grant funds will be used for instruction, transportation, and equipment replacement.

New Jersey

Junior Golf Programs

Greater Trenton Junior Golf, Inc.
West Trenton, N.J.
Awarded: $24,475
Purpose: This grant supports a program that will offer all levels of instruction to approximately 150 youths in the Trenton area. Participants will receive unlimited driving range access once a week, as well as opportunities to receive on-course instruction over the course of the summer. USGA funds will go toward instruction, course access, range access, equipment, and transportation.

Jersey Shore Junior Golf, Inc.
Manasquan, N.J.
Awarded: $22,000
Purpose: This grant supports the creation of the Jersey Shore Junior Golf program (JSJG). This program intends to reach 256 participants in the first year, serving youths ages 6 through18 from 50 social service agencies in Asbury Park, N.J. USGA funds will be used for instruction, golf course and range access, transportation, and equipment.

Junior Metro Golf, Inc.
Lawrenceville, N.J.
Awarded: $17,500
Purpose: This grant supports the continued expansion of The First Tee of Greater Trenton. The program intends to reach 450 participants from local schools and social service agencies. Participants are encouraged to take advantage of playing opportunities through discounted rates at all four of the county-owned golf courses. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course and range access, transportation, and special needs equipment.

Program for Individuals with Disabilities

The Association for Retarded Citizens, Monmouth Unit, Inc.
Tinton Falls, N.J.
Awarded: $11,000
Purpose: This grant supports a golf program for physically and mentally challenged individuals. Fifteen individuals will advance to more competitive and challenging play while 35 individuals will take part in the beginner programming. USGA funds will be used for instruction, course acess, range access, and equipment for both programs.

The ARC of Atlantic County, Inc.
Egg Harbor Township, N.J.
Awarded: $6,600
Purpose: This grant supports The ARC of Atlantic County in its program for individuals with disabilities. Approximately 35 individuals will be provided with over 40 hours of programming, much of which includes on-course playing opportunities. USGA funds will be used for course and range access, equipment, and instruction costs.

New York


Junior Golf Programs

Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club
Akwesasne, N.Y.
Awarded: $7,750
Purpose: This grant will support a program that will introduce 24 youths to golf through professional instruction and access to golf courses and driving ranges. As the only Boys and Girls Club on an Indian reservation east of the Mississippi River, this organization will use USGA funds to add golf to its offerings of athletic programs. USGA funds will go toward instruction, golf course access, driving range access, equipment, and transportation.

City Parks Foundation
Corona, N.Y.
Awarded: $15,000
Purpose: This grant supports a program that will expose children between the ages of five and seven to golf. Most programming will take place at public parks throughout New York City, with participants using limited-flight golf balls. Upon completion of the program, participants will have the option of enrolling in any of the organization's more advanced programs. Approximately 250 youths will participate in 2005. USGA funds will be used for instruction and equipment.

Economic Opportunity Program
Elmira, N.Y.
Awarded: $4,600
Purpose: This grant supports an after-school and summer golf program that will be operated in conjunction with The First Tee of Corning. Approximately 20 youths will participate in the program, which will offer PGA instruction and golf course and driving range access. USGA funds will go toward instruction, course and range access, and equipment.

Hiawatha Golf Project, Inc.
Apalachin, N.Y.
Awarded: $2,110
Purpose: This grant supports a program that exposes youth from area Boys and Girls Clubs and the Special Olympics to The First Tee programming. All instruction will take place on the program's three-hole learning course. The program expects to reach 135 youths this summer, and upon completion of the program, participants with perfect attendance will receive a free round at the Links at Hiawatha Landing, a regulation 18-hole course. USGA funds will go toward instruction and transportation.

The City of Newburgh
Newburgh, N.Y.
Awarded: $5,000
Purpose: This grant supports a program operated by the Newburgh Youth Bureau and Recreation Departments that will introduce 48 youths to golf. Programming will focus on beginner-level instruction while incorporating golf course access during every meeting. USGA funds will go toward instruction, course and range access, and transportation.

School-Operated Programs

Corning City School District
Painted Post, N.Y.
Awarded: $24,000
Purpose: This grant supports an after-school golf program that will give students opportunities to receive more extensive instruction and playing opportunities. The program will supplement the district's in-school golf program, which reaches over 4,750 students. The after-school program will reach approximately 320 students, all of whom will have an opportunity to enroll in The First Tee of Corning during the summer. USGA funds will go toward instruction and course access.

Dr. Daniel Hale Williams School for the Arts, Middle School 180
Bronx, N.Y.
Awarded: $20,000
Purpose: This grant supports a program that gives students opportunities to learn golf through in-school programming that takes place in the school gym and at a local golf course and driving range. Participants will also have an opportunity to enroll in The First Tee of Metropolitan New York upon completion of the program. In all, 80 students will participate. USGA funds will go toward instruction, course and range access, equipment, and transportation.

Rhode Island


Junior Golf Programs

Golf Foundation of Rhode Island
Providence, R.I.
Awarded: $35,000
Purpose: This grant supports programs run at the Button Hole Golf Facility. Approximately 1,500 participants from Providence, RI and surrounding areas will take part in these programs in 2005. USGA funds will go toward course and range access, instruction, and transportation for new junior golf programs.

Langston Jr. Boys & Girls Golf Club

Awarded: $8,000
Purpose: This grant supports a program for youth in the urban neighborhoods of the northeastquadrant of Washington, D.C. Approximately 175 participants will take part in the 6-week program in the summer of 2006. USGA funds will be used for equipment, course access, and range access.
