Open Fairways provides an opportunity to give under-privileged and economically disadvantaged youth the chance to experience the game of golf. The Colorado PGA Foundation

Purpose: This grants supports the D.A.R.E. Colorado "Tee It Up For Life" curriculum for at-risk youth in selected schools throughout Colorado as a means of drug intervention. 600 fifth and sixth grade youths will be introduced to the game of golf as a postive alternative to drugs by building basic skills of making good decisions. The Colorado PGA Foundation will partner with local golf professionals, local golf facilities and the D.A.R.E. police officers to present this program.

Purpose: This grant supports costs associated with the Pikes Peak Linkers Junior Golf Program (PPL). This program is for a junior golf program in Colorado Springs, which is fully operated by the USGA Foundation, as USGA Fellows serve as coordinators and volunteers. PPL operates for 16 weeks during the spring and summer.

Purpose: This grant funds the construction of a chipping green and practice green, as well as irrigation of the driving range at The First Tee Facility at Clark Park. These projects will benefit The First Tee junior golf program at Clark Park. The First Tee program reaches 300 kids in 11 one-week sessions during the summer.

Purpose: This grant will allow the completion of construction on the three-hole course at Greater Austin First Tee. Funds will be used for greens construction, seeding, irrigation, and rough shaping. The three-hole course will be adjacent to a larger 9-hole short course, practice putting green, and practice chipping area. This facility will hold programming for over 1,300 youth in 2002-03.
