The Regional Affairs Committee, known as the "eyes and ears" of the USGA on the local level, has a primary mission to promote awareness of USGA programs and to serve as a link between the USGA, its member clubs, the golfing public, and state and regional golf associations.
The Regional Affairs Committee, the largest USGA committee with 280 members, works closely with the Regional Affairs staff directors who provide logistical support to committee members.
As the "eyes and ears" of the USGA, the Regional Affairs Committee members are involved in many of the core services of the USGA. The Committee is able to provide information and feedback to the Executive Committee and USGA staff about the state of the game locally. Committee members are deeply involved in the Rules of Golf, USGA championships and qualifying, the Rules of Amateur Status, the USGA Handicap SystemT, state and regional golf associations and many grass roots golf programs.
In April, the Regional Affairs and Regional Associations Committees met for their annual workshop and seminar at The Woodlands, Texas. The majority of the committee members attended the educational program which included information on equipment, Rules of Golf, Amateur Status, qualifying rounds and other important topics. At this annual meeting, the committee members have the opportunity to network with members of the Executive Committee, Women's Committee and senior staff. The meeting is considered one of the best all-around educational opportunities in the USGA for the committee members.
