Kids on Course
Kids On Course is a partnership between the United States Golf
Association (USGA) and the National Golf Course Owners
Association (NGCOA) with the goal of securing affordable golf
course access for juniors participating in USGA-supported golf
programs. The USGA strongly believes that access to affordable
playing opportunities is one of the most important factors in
facilitating the development of young people through golf. In
addition to providing affordable access, Kids On Course offers a
Web site where participants can post scores to track improvement
and win prizes.
The characteristic that defines the Kids on Course program is the
rate that kids pay - only $1.00 per round. In summer 2007, the
structure of Kids on Course transitioned to a reimbursement
program. After partnering with local facilities, USGA-supported
programs register their "course-ready" participants to join Kids
On Course. For every round tracked by a participant, the USGA
reimburses the program $4.00. At the end of the 2008 programming
year, juniors from 20 participating programs logged more than
6,300 rounds.
"If the USGA is going to help
make the game more accessible and affordable, we must
find a way to make playing the golf course less of a
financial burden to those who have traditionally faced
economic or physical challenges. We are pleased that
there are other organizations that view affordable
course access as a key to the future inclusiveness of
the game and are eager to see this partnership with the
NGCOA make a lasting impact."
