John Spitzer
Managing Director, Equipment Standards
Spitzer, who took over the duties as managing director, equipment standards when senior technical director Dick Rugge retired at the 2013 Annual Meeting on Feb. 2, has been with the USGA since 1997. His most recent title was assistant technical director.
Spitzer came to the Association after eight years at Princeton University, where he worked in the Plasma Physics Laboratory, in charge of designing experimental nuclear fusion reactors.
Prior to his position at Princeton, he worked for nine years at General Dynamics Electric Boat Division, where he supervised the Structural Acoustics and Dynamics Group that conducted research on the survivability of nuclear submarines to underwater explosions.
He received both his bachelor’s degree in general science and master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Villanova University.
