About The U.S. Senior Open
The inaugural U.S. Senior Open was contested in June of 1980 on the East Course of Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y. The championship was established as a result of the remarkable growth in senior golf, both at the professional and amateur levels. Started as a competition for golfers 55 and over, the USGA lowered the age requirement to 50 the following year to make the championship more competitive.
Some of the game's greatest championship have won the U.S. Senior Open, including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Hale Irwin and Bernhard Langer. Miller Barber remains the only three-time champion, while Nicklaus, Player, Irwin and Allen Doyle have each claimed two titles
At 58 years of age, Doyle is the oldest golfer to have won the title.
Roger Chapman of England is the defending champion.
The 2013 U.S. Senior Open will have two commemorative merchandise shopping experiences for spectators. The main Merchandise Tent as well as the pro shop will have a variety of merchandise bearing the U.S. Senior Open logo for purchase, including hats, visors, shirts, T-shirts, jackets, towels, umbrellas, sweaters and much more.
