2013 Junior Amateur Course Overview

Not long after Martis Camp Club opened in 2008, Golf Digest magazine ranked it the Third Best New Private Course in the country and why Forbeshas Martis Camp among its 12 Best Private Golf Communities in America.

The outward nine takes advantage of the dramatic mountain views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, while the next seven holes crisscross Martis Creek and wind through the valley floor. The finishing holes are framed by alpine vistas, with views to the east of Mount Rose and the Carson Range and westward of the Sierra Nevada Range. The 18th green sits in the shadow of a 70-foot rock promontory, where the majestic Camp Lodge resides.

After playing the golf course at Martis Camp near Lake Tahoe, two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen remarked, “Needless to say, Tom Fazio has designed some pretty amazing courses in his career, but after playing the Martis Camp course, I think this is without a doubt the best Fazio course I’ve ever played.”

Fazio, who has designed more than 200 courses worldwide said of the property: “I was really awe-struck by the views and topography of the land at Martis Camp, so I wanted to naturally compliment what was already there,” he said. “The terrain and surrounding views of the Martis Valley gave us so many possibilities.”

In addition to the championship 18-hole course, Martis Camp features an 18-hole 60,000 square-foot putting park that is nestled among the trees, creeks and ponds.

The golf course is part of a 2,177-acre development in the Martis Camp Valley at the base of the Northstar-At-Tahoe Ski Resort about 10 miles from Lake Tahoe in Truckee, Calif. In fact, a ski lift called the “Martis Express” services the community directly for ski-in/ski-out service. Beside golf and skiing, the club offers an array of sporting activities, including a Family Barn complex that features an indoor basketball court, bowling alley, movie theater, summer swimming, art loft and outdoor concert park. There is also 26 miles of private trails for hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

The 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur will be the second major golf event at the club, following the successful 2011 Pacific Coast Amateur, won by 2011 USA Walker Cup member Chris Williams.

Martis Camp also boasts 2002 U.S. Amateur champion and 2009 U.S. Open runner-up Ricky Barnes, 1997 Amateur Public Links champion and past PLAYERS Champion Tim Clark, Raiders starting quarterback Carson Palmer and Hall of Fame quarterback and two-time Super Bowl champion John Elway as members.
