Combining Music And Golf

Long before her brilliant run to the championship final of the U.S. Girls' Junior two weeks ago at The Country Club of North Carolina, Katelyn Dambaugh had plans to be in Charlotte this weekend for the Justin Bieber concert. But by making it to the 36-hole final, the 15-year-old Goose Creek, S.C., resident earned a spot in the 2010 U.S. Women's Amateur, which coincidentally, is being held at Charlotte C.C.

"I'm very excited," Dambaugh said on Saturday.

She was referring to the concert, which had been on her calendar for months. That she gets to compete in the country's third-oldest golf championship -- only the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open are older -- is a bonus.

So excuse the left-hander if she is a bit tired on Monday morning when she tees off at 8:50 a.m. While the Bieber concert starts at 7 p.m., Dambaugh said he is not scheduled to appear until 10 p.m.

"I always play better on less sleep," she said.

If she hits it as well as she did at CCNC, Dambaugh could be hanging around Charlotte even longer. -- David Shefter
