A Windy Start

 Permanent link

It’s early fall on the East End of Long Island and the players at the 2010 U.S  Mid-Amateur are, literally, feeling it.

On the first day of stroke play, winds as of 10 a.m. are 15-25 MPH, the strongest the players will experience all day. The Bridge, with a clubhouse that sits on the highest point of Eastern Long Island, is probably getting a touch more of the breeze since it is less protected than Atlantic Golf Club, which rests in a lower-lying area.

As a result of the winds, scores are a bit high at both courses.

Four players are currently under par – two-time champion Nathan Smith, Kris Mikkelsen and Joe Jaspers are 1 under par through nine holes at Atlantic. At The Bridge, Sean Knapp is 2 under through nine holes.  -- Pete Kowalski
